Visitor center featuring a tourist information desk, the interactive “Myth of Lake Eder” time-travel experience, and an attractive outdoor area: A cross-section of this landmark structure brings the history of Lake Eder to life.
Architecturally, the building is modeled after the dam, making it a unique structure with regional significance. The concept was inspired by the symbolic “cutting out” of a section of the Eder Dam. The visitor center is divided into four areas: The foyer is located within the “cross-section of the dam.” The outdoor area invites visitors to linger and serves as a gathering place. The large steps provide seating, and from the terrace, visitors can overlook the lake and the dam. The ground floor houses the tourist information office and the panoramic lounge. The exhibition on the history of Lake Eder, “Mythos Edersee,” and the restrooms are located in the basement.
The interior design is also inspired by the dam: the floor and walls have a stone-like appearance, and right at the entrance, the view extends upward into the open tower. This creates the sensation of standing inside the mighty dam itself. The wooden elements represent nature, which is of particular importance in the Edersee region.
