In Nieder-Werbe, the Edersee Cycle Route 1 branches off from the Edersee Loop Trail and ends there as well. The ER1 is a moderately challenging route that invites you to linger here and there. The route starts at the parking lot in Nieder-Werbe. As with the other loop tours, it’s possible to start at any point along the route. Whether you ride through the picturesque Werbe Valley or the tranquil Reiherbach Valley, the climb up to the Waldecker Tafel is gentle. Around Sachsenhausen, the hilly landscape is open and offers wonderful views of the Kellerwald-Edersee Nature Park and the Upland time and again. The deeply incised Werbe Valley is picturesque, with its bizarre rock formations, colorful juniper heaths, the near-pristine Werbe stream, idyllic half-timbered villages, old mills, and the ruined monastery walls of Ober-Werbe. The bike path runs parallel to the babbling Werbe stream. In the spring, the forest is bathed in a delicate green. Even on hot summer days, it provides a pleasant climate. During “Indian Summer,” the sunny autumn season, the forest glows with warm colors. Time and again, it offers magnificent views of the surrounding landscape, both near and far.

A detour to Korbach, Hesse's only Hanseatic city, is just a short trip away and definitely worth it!
