In Herzhausen, the Edersee Cycle Route 2 branches off from the Edersee Circular Cycle Route and ends there as well. Near Schmittlotheim, the ER 2 leaves the Eder Valley and follows the gently ascending Lorf Valley through Altenlotheim to Frankenau. On the Kellerwald plateau, the expansive forest landscape of the nature park gives way to a different scene. Flower-filled meadows, nutrient-poor grasslands, and heathlands are the result of small-scale farming practices. Old breeds of domestic animals and flocks of sheep serve as living reminders of the past. At the vacation village of Frankenau, the ER 2 leaves the cultural landscape and enters the forests of the national park. Vast, primeval beech forests, interspersed with rocks and boulder fields, clear springs and streams, as well as tranquil meadow valleys and forest meadows, form the natural treasure of the national park. The ER 2 leads back to Herzhausen via Quernst and Fahrentriesch. Anyone who would like to experience the global uniqueness of these forests is cordially invited to explore the region around Lake Eder by bike. Safety guidelines

The bike paths and routes run partly on paved, gravel, and/or field and forest trails. Very rarely, they also run along roads with little traffic. The bike paths and routes can be combined as desired (including with the ferries and the boat) and are signposted in both directions. There are also a few combined bike and pedestrian paths.
