The Diemel River originates in Willingen-Usseln at an elevation of 660 m above sea level and, after flowing 15 km, empties into the Diemelsee, a reservoir, before continuing on into the Weser River. The Diemelradweg runs parallel to the Diemel River all the way to Bad Karlshafen.
At the source of the Diemel, there is a hiking parking lot that serves as an ideal starting point for beautiful hikes to the Kahle Pön, into the Strycktal with the Mühlenkopfschanze, or to the Ettelsberg. The nearby Graf Stolberg Hütte offers a perfect spot to stop for a break.
The source of the Diemel is also a lovely place to rest and, with its water treading pool, offers the opportunity for refreshing Kneipp treatments.
