From steam horses to bikes
Freight and passenger trains used to run on the route of the Ederseebahn. The line, which connected Amsterdam with the spa town of Bad Wildungen, was built between 1908 and 1912 to supply materials for the construction of the Edersee barrier wall as well as transporting passengers. The railroad line ceased operation in 1995.
Today, bicycles roll along the flat route, which is easy for everyone to manage with a maximum gradient of two percent. The cycle path is asphalted throughout. Refreshment stops along the way offer refreshment and relaxation.
Along the way, many relics bear witness to the railroad past: picturesque bridges, old railroad stations, two tunnels and, above all, the 28-metre-high and 180-metre-long "Selbacher Viaduct", a highlight of the tour.
An entry point to the cycle path is located on the southern outskirts of Korbach. Here there are good parking and rest facilities (also for motorhomes), a tube machine and information boards with information about the town of Korbach and the cycle path.
