In 2002, the Krugmann grain distillery decided to close down its production site in the Kierspe district of Rönsahl and leave the historic distillery building. The old, listed building in the heart of Rönsahl lay derelict for three years before it was taken over by Horst Becker in 2005 and an association (historische Brennerei Rönsahl e.V.) was founded in 2008 to preserve the beautiful natural stone building. A center of cultural life developed and established itself in the middle of the small village of Rönsahl.
As the production of brandy was fiscally prohibited, the idea of setting up a brewery grew. This was then brought to life by Wolfgang Becker in 2011. The basic idea behind it was to supply the events and functions of the distillery association with specially produced beer. From then on, beer was brewed in Rönsahl in a historic copper brewhouse dating back to 1910.
However, demand for the delicious brew grew rapidly, turning the hobby brewery into a more or less full-time job.
In 2017, Wolfgang Becker's work at the brewery became too intense for reasons of age and the future of the Rönsahl brewery was uncertain. At this point, the trained brewer and maltster Marcel Faulenbach and his long-time friend Tim Feldmann offered to take over the small business.
At the turn of the year 17/18, the takeover was "wrapped up" and the future of the Rönsahl brewery was secured.
Since 1 January 2018, the brewery's fortunes have been under the management of the two young entrepreneurs, who have set themselves the goal of establishing Rönsahl beers on the regional beer market and making the historic distillery the central venue for events in the small, tranquil village.
As in many areas, the coronavirus pandemic has hit the hospitality industry and breweries particularly hard. Massive declines in sales were the result.
In mid-2023, the Rönsahl brewery had to set a new course. Marcel Faulenbach retired and with Thorsten Oczko as the new partner, the brewery embarked on a path of stabilization.
In March 2024, Mr. Tim Feldmann left the brewery. The new managing partner - together with Thorsten Oczko - is Ms. Heike Kwas.
The Rönsahl Brewery, located in the historic distillery in Rönsahl, is also the starting and finishing point of the circular hiking tour along the Wipper and Lingesetalsperre. There is also a hiking information board here.
